The band formed as teenagers under Big Hit Entertainment and released their debut album “2 Cool 4 Skool” (2013). Helping to build BTS’ reputation as a socially conscious group were their subsequent accomplishments as their first chart-topping US Billboard 200 with The Most Beautiful Moment In Life, Part 2 (2015), The Most Beautiful Moment In Life: Young Forever (2016), and Wings. (2016). Wings became the first BTS album to have over one million copies sold in South Korea. By 2017, they had crossed BTS into the global music market, leading the Korean wave to the United States and breaking several sales records, becoming the first K-pop group to be certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for their song “Mic Drop”. They are the first Korean artist to hit the Billboard 200 with their album Love Yourself: Tear (2018) and since then top the US charts with their albums Love Yourself: Answer (2018), Map Of The Soul: Persona (2019), and Map Of The Soul: 7 ( 2020), making them the fastest group to top the number one spot with four albums in less than two years since the Beatles emerged. Love Yourself: Answer broke the Gaon Album Chart’s monthly record as the record for Love Yourself: Tear, and Love Yourself: Answer became the first Korean album to be certified platinum in the United States.
