Anita Doth, also known as Anita from 2 Unlimited, is a Dutch singer who gained international fame as one-half of the iconic Eurodance group 2 Unlimited. Born on December 28, 1971, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Anita’s musical journey began at a young age.
Anita’s interest in music was ignited by her mother, who was a classically trained singer. Growing up, Anita would often listen to her mother rehearsing and performing, which had a profound impact on her. This exposure to music eventually led to Anita taking vocal lessons.
In the late 1980s, Anita joined a hip-hop group called B-Side Rats, where she met the group’s producer, Jean-Paul De Coster. Recognizing her talent, De Coster invited Anita to join his newly formed project, 2 Unlimited, alongside rapper Ray Slijngaard.
Together, Anita and Ray became the face of 2 Unlimited and achieved enormous success throughout the 1990s. Their debut single, “Get Ready for This,” released in 1991, instantly became a hit, reaching the top 10 charts in various countries. This marked the beginning of a phenomenally successful career for the duo.
Anita’s powerful and energetic vocals, coupled with Ray’s rapping skills, created a unique and captivating sound that quickly became synonymous with the Eurodance genre. Songs like “Twilight Zone,” “No Limit,” and “Tribal Dance” topped charts worldwide and became dance anthems of the era.
Beyond their chart-topping success, 2 Unlimited holds several records in the music industry. They were the first group to release four consecutive singles that reached number one in the UK charts. Moreover, their debut album, “Get Ready!,” sold over 4.5 million copies globally, making it one of the best-selling albums of the 1990s.
Despite their undeniable success, 2 Unlimited faced some internal challenges. In 1996, Anita and Ray decided to part ways due to creative differences. While Ray continued with the group under the same name, Anita embarked on a solo career, releasing her first solo album, “Reality,” in 1998.
Though not achieving the same level of commercial success as 2 Unlimited, Anita’s solo career showcased her versatility as an artist. Her album featured different styles, including R&B and soulful pop. Songs like “Lifting Up My Life” and “This Is Reality” demonstrated her ability to deliver emotive performances and showcased her strong vocal range.
In addition to her solo endeavors, Anita continued to collaborate with various artists, lending her vocals to tracks by DJ Jurgen and other dance music producers. She also occasionally reunited with Ray for live performances, allowing fans to relive the energetic 2 Unlimited experience.
Anita’s contribution to the music industry and her role in the success of 2 Unlimited cannot be overstated. Her powerful and captivating vocals, combined with the catchy beats created by Jean-Paul De Coster, defined an era of dance music and continue to resonate with fans worldwide.
Today, Anita lives a relatively private life, occasionally making appearances at music festivals and events. Her impact on the music industry and her role in shaping the Eurodance genre will forever be etched in history.
